If I had a billion dollars, I'd give a million to each of my friends and family. I'd have an indoor gym and pool built at my college. I'd pay for teachers aides at my daughter's school. I'd buy every book Nora Roberts ever wrote, and I'd fly to her next book signing so I could tell her thank you for saving my sanity by giving me an escape from reality for a few hours at a time.

Ok, American Girl has zapped me with a new book meme (which she got from Urthshu), so here goes.

What is the total number of books you own?

About 2,500 at last count- mostly paperbacks.  And no, unfortunately they are not all on shelves, most of them are trapped in cardboard boxes and imprisoned in closets.

What is the last book you bought?

Um... hang on, I have to check Amazon- I usually buy 8 or 10 at a time- Oh, wait, it was Naked in Death by Nora Roberts.

The manager at my local Waldenbooks recognizes me, and I swear she jumps up and down when I walk in.  (My record is 40 books in one trip.  What can i say, they were having a buy 4 get the 5th free sale on romances.)

What is the last book you read?

Um... I don't remember.  I've read six or seven Harlequins in the last week because my friend gave me a whole box.  (I love her.)  I don't remember what the last title was.

Five books that mean a lot to you?

The Harry Potter series.  (Hey, if AG can list a series as one choice, so can I.)  The Potter books have fostered reading in a whole new generation.  besides, they're awesome.  (I've read the first one six times now.  I re-read the whole series when a new one comes out- which reminds me, I need to start this week so I'll have time to get through them all before The Half-Blood Prince is released.)

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch.  I've read this to my kids over and over.  My mil read it in the middle of Walmart and started bawling- it was right after we found out Oshu's grandma has Alzheimers.

A mother held her new baby and
very slowly rocked him back and forth,
back and forth, back and forth.
And while she held him, she sang:
         I'll love you forever,
         I'll like you for always,
         As long as I'm living,
         My baby you'll be.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.  How can you not love a book about a nosy little girl who tricks all of the adults?

The Ideal Wife by Mary Balogh.  Not that it's the best book she's ever written (although it is good) but it holds fond memories.  It was the first 'adult' book I checked out at the Bookmobile and smuggled home.  (I think I was 10.)

Well, hell.  Now I can't narrow it down any further.  There are just too many books I love- and as soon as I hit publish I'll think of several I should have added to the list.

I'm going to tag MizLiciouss, milktea, and jlhpisces.  Enjoy!

    Huh.

Well, the dreaded (feared?) in-laws arrived.  Spoiler alert:  They are really cool people.  Oshu informed me that I always assume people to be something they aren't and I obsess because I'm afraid they won't like me.  He's right.
I had so much fun hanging out with C & C.  I freaked out because I didn't know what to wear, I didn't want to wear jeans because for some reason I had it in my head that she was kind of... not prissy, exactly, but... maybe... oh heck, I don't know- but I assumed she'd be dressed up.  I finally settled on a pair of capris and a knit top.  She wore jeans and a t-shirt.  She tells hilarious jokes.  She freely admits she has a dirtier mouth than he does- and he was in the Air Force for a whole lot of years.  I adore her.  She's exactly the kind of sister-in-law I always wished I had, and I've spent eight years not knowing it because I was afraid to be myself- afraid she might not like me if I was me.  And as for the other sister-in-law- the one who has insane amounts of money (does it clarify things when I mention that she bought her husband a Porche for Christmas?) she's a riot.  She has one of the hardest jobs in the world- she does home health care for terminally ill and severely disabled children- and she'll stand and cry while she talks about 'her kids'- but she's just so fun to be around.  When we went up there to her house for Memorial day I felt like part of the gang- instead of on the outside looking in.
That was a first.  Always before I've felt like there was a wall between me and them- because they're all older, and they've been in the family so much longer, and all that kind of stuff.  You know what?  They didn't build that wall- I did.  Now I finally see that they've been terrific people all along, the whole bunch of them- and I've just found a whole new group of friends that I didn't realize I had.

    Life busy.

Another calculus test today.  Have I mentioned lately that I hate calculus?  The in-laws arrived- had a blast hanging with them all last weekend.  We're supposed to go out for a movie this weekend.

I need to strip my kitchen floor- its old tile from the 70's and may not have been stripped since then.  Any suggestions?  I've been scrubbing it, but I need something with a little oomph or Im never gonna get it all off.

Have to go to work now.  Lucky me.

    Yay me!

Been studying frantically for today's Calculus midterm.  After the test was finished, he passed out the solution key, and if I remember all my answers right, I only missed one 5-point question... and I got the two-point bonus question- so I think I got a 97%!  Go me!

I still hate calculus, though.  It's horrible.

We're moving at work, so it's been hectic.  We all went out for lunch today, though, to The Bon Barbecue.  Chinese, with a Mongolian barbecue.  Yummy, yummy!  Now I just need something sweet for dessert.

I think I'm gonna put the kiddos to bed early and take a bubble bath before Oshu gets home.

Next time I post I'll have to remember to write about Girl's Nite Out last Saturday.  Lots of fun... and nobody got arrested.
